How to Turn Off AI Job Search on LinkedIn (Get Classic Search Back)

LinkedIn and AI are at an interesting crossroads at the moment. While they are now releasing new features to try and remove "AI slop" on your feed, they are also forcing AI down your throat through summarizations and rewriting tools throughout the site.

But they may have gone a step too far. Let me tell you about the "AI job search."

If you are on this article, you probably know about it already and are furiously trying to get back to the "normal" search. I was right there with you when I was doing my job search. At some point, my Jobs option was changed to the AI version that gives matches of relevant jobs (and we are using the word "matches" very loosely here) and would not allow me to filter by job options anymore.

Since you also did not have the helpful filters at the top, you were forced to type things like "Remote" into the search bar to bring back remote work, which, lo and behold, proceeded to bring back every job in the country, remote or not.

LinkedIn has been rolling out this new AI-powered job search for a while now. It lets you type in plain-language requests (for example, "remote marketing roles that pay over 80k") instead of using the familiar keyword box and filters. Up until recently, it was completely optional, but more and more people are noticing they are getting switched over without expressly asking to be.

In my opinion, the AI job search is fundamentally broken. Not once did I use it and get back the jobs that met my criteria. Worse, it would not even show roles I knew were already posted, ones that clearly met the criteria I entered.

I am sure you are here because you are reaching your breaking point trying to make this search functionality work, just like I was.

The good news is that you can almost always get back to a classic, filter-driven search experience, even though LinkedIn does not currently offer one universal "off switch" that works for every account. Try some of the options below to get yourself back to the old job search function.

Note: AI job search is being rolled out gradually and tested on different accounts at different times. That means the exact toggle you see (or do not see) depends on your account, your app version, and your location. If you cannot find a "switch back" button, it is very likely a rollout difference, not something you did wrong.

First, look for the built-in toggle

When LinkedIn offers a way to switch back directly, it is usually sitting right on the Jobs page, near the search bar or the results. Before trying anything more involved, scan for it:

•    Near the search bar: Look for small wording such as "Classic search," "Try classic," "Back to filters," or a toggle switch at the top of the Jobs page.

•    In the filter row: Sometimes the traditional experience is hiding behind the standard filters (Date posted, Experience level, Remote, Company, and so on). Opening those can drop you back into the familiar flow.

•    In a menu: Check any three-dot ("more") menu or settings icon on the Jobs page for a layout or view option.

If you find it, you are done. If you do not, do not keep hunting for a button that may not exist on your account yet.

If everything above fails, save this link. The classic search is still available at https://www.linkedin.com/jobs/search. Bookmark it, and pray they do not remove it entirely. Keep using the classic search there if no menu options are available to you.

Use LinkedIn Jobs on desktop for the most control

The desktop website (linkedin.com/jobs) typically gives you the fullest, most classic-feeling set of filters, and the AI layer tends to be less aggressive there than in the mobile app. If mobile is stuck in the AI experience, switching to a laptop or desktop browser is often the fastest fix.

1.  Open a desktop browser and go to the LinkedIn Jobs page.

2.  Type a specific job title into the search box (not a full sentence).

3.  Apply filters one at a time from the row across the top of the results.

4.  Save the search (if the option appears) so you can reuse it without rebuilding it.

Refresh a stuck session

Sometimes the AI view sticks because of a temporary interface glitch rather than a permanent account change. A clean refresh clears that state:

•    Update or reinstall the app. An out-of-date app can hold onto an old feature state.

•    Log out and back in. This alone resolves a surprising number of display issues.

•    Clear cache and cookies. In a browser, clear LinkedIn cookies, then sign back in. On Android, clearing the app cache can have the same effect.

None of this is guaranteed to restore classic search, but it reliably removes a broken session that is faking the problem.

Ask LinkedIn Help directly (and ask the right question)

If there is genuinely no way to switch back on your account, contact LinkedIn through the LinkedIn Help Center. The wording of your question matters. Ask specifically whether your account has been placed in an AI job search test with no manual opt-out. If it is an account-level experiment, ordinary troubleshooting will not resolve it, and support is the only path.

When you reach out (or post in a forum for help), include your device (desktop, iPhone, or Android), your app version or browser, whether the issue shows up on both mobile and desktop, and the exact screen or button you clicked. Specific details make it far easier for someone to tell whether you are seeing a bug, a design change, or a rollout.

Keep your job search sharp while LinkedIn keeps changing

If you have been laid off, your search is not something that can wait for LinkedIn to settle their interface. The goal is not really to "fix the button"; it is to keep finding good roles without wasting energy. A few habits keep you effective no matter which version of search you land in:

•    Use precise titles. Search the role you want, not vague industry words.

•    Add location intentionally. Include a city, a country, or "remote" so results match how you actually want to work.

•    Apply filters early. Date posted, experience level, and workplace type trim the noise quickly.

•    Save strong searches. Reuse the searches that surface good roles instead of rebuilding them each time. This also lets you get targeted emails with roles that meet your search, so you will not have to mess with the filters at all.

•    Set focused alerts. A few relevant alerts beat a flood of broad ones, so aim for relevance over volume.

All Fixed! (For Now, At Least)

At this moment in time, there are workarounds for the not-so-useful AI search, as detailed here. But LinkedIn could decide to go all out with their AI, and any tips are subject to change as they change their functionality. I will be on the lookout for any updates that change the above, but for now you should be good to get back to the "normal" search.
