If you are a new grad trying to break into your first role, or someone who has lost their job because a company tried to have AI replace your work, it might feel particularly dire right now. You may be wondering if you need to make an entire career pivot, or if the degree you just got was worth the cost.

Getting laid off is hard enough. Getting laid off because someone in a different country, or a robot, took your job hits harder. It would be different if they didn't need the work at all, but apparently they do; they just don't value you enough to do it. Message received. That turmoil can cause you to reassess what you are even doing with your life now that your chosen career path could be at risk from outsourcing or automation.

If you are on this article, you probably know about it already and are furiously trying to get back to the "normal" search. I was right there with you when I was doing my job search. At some point, my Jobs option was changed to the AI version that gives matches of relevant jobs (and we are using the word "matches" very loosely here) and would not allow me to filter by job options anymore.

And boy has it accelerated. Previous to the introduction of LLMs, many LinkedIn posts consisted of well-researched and insightful information regarding people’s careers or helpful information for their client base about their product offering. I used to find a lot of those posts annoying. What I wouldn’t give for that to be what is posted on LinkedIn now.
